Paula Abdul is a singer and television personality who was born 19 June, 1962, in San Fernando, California. She began taking dance lessons at the age of eight and continued dancing from there. At highschool she was both a honour student and a cheerleader, and at the age of fifteen she received a scholarship to a dance camp where she got her first break into film, starring in the 1978 independent musical film Junior High School.

After graduating from highschool, Paula Abdul studied at California State University, in Northridge, undertaking a broadcasting course. Whilst at university, Paula Abdul was selected to be part of the Los Angeles cheerleading squad called Laker Girls. Within three months on the squad Paula Abdul was promoted to head choreographer and shortly after she dropped out of college to further pursue a career in choreography.

Paula Abdul got her big choreography break after being discovered by The Jacksons whilst dancing at a Lakers Game. The Jacksons signed Paula Abdul on to choreograph the music video for their hit single Torture. Following the success of the music video, The Jacksons chose Paula Abdul as their choreographer for their Victory tour. Throughout the 80s, Paula Abdul choreographed several music videos for the likes of Janet Jackson,a nd released numerous dance/workout DVDs. She also choreographed scenes in many hits films, such as the giant keyboard scene with Tom Hanks in Big, as well as films like Coming to America, Jerry McGuire, American Beauty, and The Doors. Paula Abdul has also worked as a choreographer for television shows such as the American Music Awards, the Academy Awards, and The Tracy Ullman Show.

In 1988, Paula Abdul released her first pop album titled Forever Your Girl. The album eventually hit #1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed in that position for ten weeks. Her follow-up album, Spellbound, was released in 1991 and sold thirteen million copies worldwide. In 2002, Paula Abdul joined American Idol as one of the three judges, alongside Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson.
