The young music sensation never fails to please from under her umbrella. She’s sexy, cute and fun and despite some difficult times, she is a great example and role model for young women. She’s all about about what it means to be resilient and stay true to your calling despite the tough times. The 23 year old who moved to the U.S from Barbados at 16 to try her luck in the music industry has certainly gained the success she wanted, but it hasn’t been an easy road.
In 2009 Rihanna was assaulted by her boyfriend at the time Chris Brown. The incident made world headlines when the media failed to respect Rihanna's right as a victim and globally published pictures of her beaten face. To her credit Rihanna didn’t shirk from media attention but rather used the abuse to publicly highlight how easy it is for a woman to get caught up in abuse. She ditched Chris Brown who was found guilty and charged. He also continued to make an ass of himself over the next couple of years while Rihanna moved on to bigger and better things.
In the past few years Rihanna has performed or collaborated with Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Fergie and Alicia Keys. Not bad for a girl barely out of her teens but reflective of the maturity she has shown throughout her young career. In addition to handling the ordeal with Chris Brown (in which she lost a precious awards performance gig) she has shown that she is a star in more ways than one. Rihanna created her Believe Foundation in 2006 to help terminally ill children and also has performed a number of concerts to raise funds for charity.
She performed at Madonna’s Raising Malawi fundraiser, after becoming an honorary cultural ambassador for Barbados, Rihanna became involved with DKMS, an international donor network based in Tübingen, Germany; she visited the H&M in New York to support Fashion Against AIDS by presenting her t-shirt design and signing autographs as part of a celebrity fashion line called Fashion Against AIDS which was launched in February 2008 to raise awareness of the disease among teens and spread awareness. In 2008, Rihanna and star singers such as Carrie Underwood, Beyoncé Knowles, Mariah Carey, and Fergie recorded a charity single to be the theme song to a global anti-cancer campaign. Believe it or not, that is just a fraction of the charity work this girl has been involved with since gaining stardom.
Rihanna will embark on her fourth concert tour, the Loud Tour, later this year, in support of the Loud album which has produced three chart topping singles around the world – so far.
